more options
Purposeful Statements offers two options, in addition to the one-on-one student program described on "the process" link, to assist students seeking admission to graduate and professional schools:
1) A personalized consultation service is best suited for prospective students who are considering whether to apply to graduate or professional school. This option includes extensive exploratory counseling and extended support through the application process. This comprehensive approach to the graduate admissions process is for individuals who have stopped out for a year or more after receiving their baccalaureate degree. For those living within the Route 495 loop in Massachusetts, this option includes face-to-face meetings. To learn more about the cost and content of these options contact me @: yourdean.com@verizon.net or call 617-823-4326.
2) I also offer two PowerPoint workshops targeting the graduate school application process: "Applying to Graduate School: Assessing and Choosing Programs" and "Applying to Graduate School: Creating an Outstanding Application." They are appropriate for presentation at colleges, career fairs and at corporate settings for employers that support their employees' efforts to continue their schooling at the graduate level.
Applying to Graduate School: Assessing and Choosing Programs
This workshop will help prospective applicants to understand the many graduate school opportunities available to them and help them to develop a useful set of criteria to choose programs that meet their objectives. This workshop will:
- describe the different degree programs available at the graduate level
- discuss when and how applicants should start examining and comparing programs
- discuss the expenses as well as the resources for funding graduate education
- prepare applicants to ask the right kind of questions to assess prospective schools
- apprise applicants about how to plan to assemble effective graduate school applications
Applying to Graduate School: Creating an Outstanding Application
This workshop discusses the various parts of the "statement of purpose" that applicants need to understand to create a strong graduate school application. This workshop will:
- help applicants to understand and integrate their academic experience (research, internship, etc) into an effective application essay
- discuss how applicants should deal with problematic parts of their records
- explain how to manage the tasks involved in applying to several graduate programs simultaneously
- describe how applicants need to work with faculty/mentors to get letters of recommendation
- use several exemplary "statements of purpose" to illustrate how to create an effective essay
Depending on the size of the audience and their inclination to ask questions, each presentation is no less than an hour or more than an hour and a half in length.
These workshops can be presented on a stand-alone basis; they are most effective presented sequentially.
